What is an Environmental Management System (EMS)?
An Environmental Management System is a set of procedures and tools that an organization puts in place to effectively manage the company’s environmental affairs. The EMS must ensure that the organization, at a minimum, meets the environmental laws and regulations in each jurisdiction the company operates in. Beyond that, the EMS can be designed to include industry best practices and be reflective of the company’s commitment to sustainability and the environment. As a guide, the International Organization of Standards has developed a practical set of tools to assist organizations in developing an EMS in the form of ISO 14001 and ISO 14005.
What is an Environmental Management Information System (EMIS)?
